Mercy Corps Gets Funds for Gaza
Willamette Week is reporting that Mercy Corps has received a $10 million grant from Qatar Charity to help rebuild Gaza.
Let's hope the cash infusion helps both the war-torn region and the budget-torn local nonprofit.
I would be interested to find out how they are planning to verify that the funds are going into rebuilding efforts rather than into Hamas' coffers. This has been identified as a huge problem for monitoring aid promised by the Saudi and the Americans.
How closely-monitored will the contribution be once disbursed in the field...that is a great point to recognize, Natasha. On a side note, it appears Mercy Corps may also be assisting with food aid in North Korea, in the amount of 100,000 metric tons! One can hope this assistance also makes it to the designated individuals and not resold for profit by corrupt government officials.
