Presented by: Elizabeth Leach Gallery Drake Deknatel's Berlin Portraits reflect a distinctly European influence, demonstrated by his focus on a singular concept, worked and reworked in multiple versions. Primarily known for his abstract expressionist-style paintings, which have been exhibited widely in the Pacific Northwest and Europe, Deknatel revisits a more representational approach in this body of work, which he completed towards the end of his life. After discovering a photograph of himself as a child, dressed in his father's flight jacket, Deknatel began a series of paintings that examine his childhood memories and experiences.
