Peter Hessler is one of the best writers on China in the west. After a Peace Corp tour took him to Central China, he moved to Beijing and wrote a trilogy of books on life in Modern China. He is coming to Powell's to talk about the last book, Country Driving. This is a great opportunity for all China Hands.

I am so glad I went! Thank you for posting this announcement. I learned a lot about China and I really like this guy and how he viewed things. I'm going to have to make a point to read his three books, back-to-back. He did a great job and would love to see some of what he spoke about in our next discussion (unless more Middle Eastern regimes collapse in the next two weeks).
